Seniors, we are approaching an exciting time in the college admissions process...time for YOU to be the decision maker!
When evaluating admission offers, be on the lookout for Accepted Student Events, where the college "rolls out the red carpet" (or blue, or orange, depending on the school colors) for accepted students and families - expect LOTS of activity, excitement, and probably free food and swag! These events are usually super fun. Now, the colleges are trying to recruit YOU!
Here are some tips to make the most out of these events:
Try to meet a lot of different representatives from the school. Typically, student groups, faculty, and administration are available to promote their offerings and answer questions. So check out that a capella group, chemistry lab, and career services office and get the scoop on everything that interests you.
Mingle with other accepted students. These could be your future classmates! Take time to chat with them and feel out the connections you experience with this potential class.
Have your list of questions ready. Did you have super-specific concerns or curiosities that you were a little shy to ask during a prospective student tour? This is your chance to ask the hard questions and pressure-test the answers.
Picture yourself being a student on this campus. Really picture it - eating in the dining hall, hanging out in the student center, walking to class from the freshman dorms. How does it feel? Here's where I advise students to really trust their instincts!
